
Achievements of Electrical Department: -
Passenger amenity: -
i. Twenty (20) nos of Escalators have been installed in the last year (2019-20) at different stations of Metro Railway 0ut of which sixteen (16) are replacement of old escalators and four (4) nos. are additional, 3 nos. at Esplanade and 1 no. at Shyambazar.
Seven (7) nos. more escalators will be provided at different stations, (order placed) and ten (10) nos order are in final stage.
In these Escalators three (3) will be additional at Esplanade, Central and Mahatma Gandhi road, others will replace existing old Escalators.
iii Old Air Conditioning plants have been replaced at three (3) Metro stations (Kalighat, Rabindra Sarobar and Chandni Chawak)
iv.Provision of Cold Purified drinking water booths have been provided at all Metro stations.
Environment Management/Energy Efficiency Measures: -
Various Energy efficiency measures are being taken in Metro Railway Kolkata to reduce consumption of conventional energy which in turn contributes in improving our environment as well as helps us to reduce expenditure in electricity bills such as: -
I. Provision of VVVF Drives: -
This initiative has resulted in significant Total 81 large capacity (ranging from 55 to 110 kW) ventilation fan motors are installed in Metro Railway Kolkata for ventilation of 15.67 Km long tunnel section. To improve energy efficiency of these motors, it has been planned to replace the conventional starters with VVVF drives which will provide facility of controlling motor speed as per requirement.11 nos of VVVF drive has already been commissioned.
. These 11 drives will have the savings of 14.63 lakh kWh energy and 102.41 lakh Rupees per year (approx.).
ii. Provision of LED T8/T5 LED Tube lights: -
Approximately 26000 T8 existing Tube lights(36Watts) have already been replaced by T8/T5 LED Tube lights (19/15 Watts). This initiative has resulted in savings of 30.71 lakh kWh energy and 214.97 lakh Rupees(approx.) per year for 26000 LED tube lights.
iv. Development, production and use of alternative sources of Energy: -
Metro Railway Kolkata has enhanced the capacity of Solar Generation by installing rooftop solar plant at MUK/TSS building (capacity 400kWp), KVS/TSS building(50kWp), NOA/RSS building(50kWp) and TSM Hospital building(13.5kWp) in the year 2016 and 2017up to 543.5 kWp. These plants have generated 593464.kWh energy on average during 2018-19 and 2019-20. One 300 litres/day capacity Solar Water Heater has already been commissioned at Noapara Canteen in the year 2014-15 and one 1000 litres/day capacity Solar Water Heater has been commissioned at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital in the year 2016-17.
