1.3.Maintenance of Rolling Stock:
1.3.1 Various maintenance schedules and periodicity thereof prescribed at present for the rolling stock are as under.
Daily Inspection | Every day |
3-Day Inspection | Every 3rd day |
45-Day Inspection | After 45 days |
6-Monthly Inspection | After 6 months |
Annual Inspection | After 1 year |
Periodic Overhauling (POH) | After 3,00,000 km of running or 5 years whichever is earlier for old rakes and After 4,00,000 km of running or 6 years whichever is earlier for new rakes. |
When operation of Metro Railway started in Calcutta, all maintenance of rakes was carried out at Tollygunge (now Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) car shed. The shifting of maintenance activities from Tollygunge shed to Noapara car shed (located approximately 2 km away from DumDum Cantonment station of Eastern Railway towards West) was completed in January 2004 to augment the manpower resources and to stick to the inspection schedules as per periodicity. Scheduled Maintenance activities of Rolling Stock are now mainly carried out at NoaparaCarShedwhiledailyand3dayinspectionsarealsocarriedoutatKaviSubhashCarShed on round the clock basis. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar shed acts as a satellite shed where daily schedules of rakes and normal stabling of rakes are carried out. A connection from DumDum Metro station to Noapara exists for injection/withdrawal of rakes. Section-wise activities in Noapara car shed are asunder.

1.4 Rolling Stock Operation:
1.4.1.Crew Lobbies: One Motorman (Driving Motorman) in the front driving cab and one Motorman in the rear cab (Conducting Motorman) constitute the crew for one train. Signing on/off of the crew is done at two lobbies, viz. at Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash stations. The crew lobbies are provided with all the facilities prescribed for crew booking. Besides Motormen, few Shunters are also posted at Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash for movement of rakes to/from Noapara and Kavi Subhash shed and also to perform shunting operation in the shed.
1.4.2.Training of Crew: Training to running staff is given at the Training Centre at Noapara. There is a in motion simulator for imparting interactive training. Various kinds of training is as under.
SN | Nature of Training | Duration | Interval |
1. | Initial Training to Trainee Motorman recruited through RRB | 52 Weeks | One time |
2. | Initial Training to Trainee Motorman inducted from Zonal Railway | 24 Weeks | One time |
