KOLKATA METRO - ON A REFORM ROADMAP
Metro Railway, albeit tiny in size, has carved a unique position in the hearts of the people of Kolkata through its journey commencing right from 1984. Untiring and peerless efforts of Metro Railway have gone a long way to achieve the distinction enabling Metro Railway to be aptly honoured and proclaimed as the lifeline of the City of Joy.
Over a period of time, new infrastructure and state-of -the-art technology have been added on a sustained and continuous basis to Metro in its present form, which resulted in robust and sturdy mode of transportation for passengers ensuring safety and security.
Presently, the geographical network of Metro Railway covers 47.165 km in length which is likely to be enhanced by new sanctioned projects of 86.07 km in due course of time covering entire length and breadth of the mega-city. To make the tagline (Metro everywhere) a reality and palpable, no stone has been left unturned on the way of making the system more passenger friendly as far as amenities and expectations are concerned.
In our bid to take the present form and shape to greater heights, Metro administration has chosen to tread the reform path in the direction of which right intents have been signaled to usher in intended results. In hard-nosed pursuit of reform path, Metro has recalibrated its internal calculus. It is crystal clear that the reform pedal shall be kept pressed through out to ensure cent percent big ticket reforms and laying greater emphasis on development. Innovation will become the bedrock of Metro culture to ultimately form a bulwark of contour of our province.
