 Achievements of Electrical Department :-

Passenger amenity:-

i.9 additional Escalators have been commissioned at 6 under ground Metro stations in last 2 years (3 at Jatin Das Pask, 2 at Maidan, 1 each at Rabindra Sadan, Sovabazar, Mahatma Gandhi Road and Esplanade Metro stations), taking total no. of escalators in operation to 75. Further 10 nos. additional Escalators has been planned to be provided.

ii.State of Art Signages has been provided at Belgachia and Shovabazar Metro stations for better passenger guidance. With this work, improved Signages have been completed at 10 Metro stations (Rabindra Sarobar, J.D Park, Netaji Bhavan, Rabindra Sadan, Maidan, Park Street, M.G. Road, Girish Park, Shova Bazar and Belgachia), out of 17 old Metro stations. Work at balance 7 stations (Dumdum, Central, Chandni Chowk, Esplanade, Kalighat and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) will be completed shortly.

iii.Old Air Conditioning plants have been replaced at 3 Metro stations (Girish Park, M.G. Road and J.D. Park). Further Old plants at 2 stations will be replaced during 2015-16 (Kalighat and Rabindra Sarobar).

iv.Cold drinking water booths have been provided at all Metro stations.

Environment Management/Energy Efficiency Measures:-

Various Energy efficiency measures are being taken in Metro Railway Kolkata to reduce consumption of conventional energy which in turn contributes in improving our environment as well as helps us to reduce expenditure in electricity bills such as :- 

i.Provision of VVVF Drives:-

This initiative has resulted in significant Total 81 large capacity (ranging from 55 to 110 kW) ventilation fan motors are installed in Metro Railway Kolkata for ventilation of 15.67 Km long tunnel section. To improve energy efficiency of these motors, it has been planned to replace the conventional starters with VVVF drives which will provide facility of controlling motor speed as per requirement.

09 Ventilation fan motors have already been provided with VVVF drives. These 9 drives will have the savings of 11.97 lakh kWh energy and 83.97 lakh Rupees per year (approx).

ii.    Provision of LED Tube lights:-

6622 T8 existing Tube lights have already been replaced by LED Tube lights. This initiative has resulted in savings of 8.27 lakh kWh energy and  57.39 lakh Rupees(approx) per year for 6622 LED tube lights.

iii.  Provision of T5 Tube lights:-

10000 T8 Tube lights (36 Watts) has been replaced by T5 Tube lights (28 Watts). This has resulted in energy savings of about 0.5 Million Units and reduction of Rs. 0.34 Crs (approx) in energy bills annually.

iv.  Development, production and use of alternative sources of Energy:-

One 10 kWp and one 20kWp Solar power plant has been commissioned in Metro Railway Kolkata. These two plants have generated 3217 kWh energy during 2014-15. One 300 ltrs/day capacity Solar Water Heater has already been commissioned at Noapara Canteen.
