CCRS APPROVES EI-BASED SIGNALLING SYSTEM on JOKA TO MAJERHAT STRETCH OF PURPLE LINE

Kolkata, Date: 16.01.2024

Here is another good news for all Metro commuters!!!

Shri Janak Kumar Garg, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS), NF Circle has approved commissioning of Electronic Interlocking (EI) based Signalling System as initial stage of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) based Signalling System on both UP and DN lines in between Joka Station to upcoming Majerhat Station of Purple Line and Joka Depot of Joka-Esplanade Corridor.  His approval letter dtd. 16.01.2024 has reached Metro Rail Bhavan today.

As a result of this approval, now Metro rakes on this stretch can be run with EI based Signalling System. At present, services on this stretch in between Joka to Taratala are being run following ‘One Train only System’.   This approval of CCRS will enhance flexibility in train operations and number of services can be increased if situation demands on this stretch. It is to be noted that at present, total 24 services ply on this stretch daily.

Metro services in Purple Line will be extended up to Majerhat station very soon.
