PRESS RELEASE

PAPER-BASED QR CODE TICKETING SYSTEM NOW AVAILABLE AT ALL STATIONS OF EAST-WEST METRO

Kolkata, Date: 11.01.2024

Good news for Metro commuters!

After Sealdah, Central Park, Karunamoyee and Salt Lake Sector V stations, now Paper -Based QR Code Ticketing System has been introduced in rest of the four stations of East-West Metro (Green Line) i.e. Phoolbagan, Bengal Chemical, Salt Lake Stadium and City Centre. This facility has been made available in these four stations from today i.e. 11.01.2024. Now Metro commuters will be able to purchase Paper- Based QR Code Tickets from all the stations of Green Line. Apart from this, tokens and Smart Cards will also be available across all the stations. “Kolkata Metro Ride” App based tickets will also be available as usual.

It is to be noted that this alternative Paper- Based QR Code ticketing system was introduced first in Green Line on 11.10.2023 at Sealdah Metro station. Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed this system which has already become popular among the Metro commuters.

Metro Railway Authorities have been constantly taking steps to improve passenger -friendly amenities in the Metro premises.  Expansion of Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System is a part of that endeavour and this facility will be extended further to enable Metro commuters to avail Metro services by purchasing Paper -Based QR Code Ticket from all the stations of Green Line.

All the AFC-PC gates of different stations of Green Line have already been upgraded to make this new ticketing system successful. If this Paper Based QR Code Ticketing System is successful in East-West Metro then gradually it will also be implemented in Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar and Joka to Taratala stretches of Blue Line and Purple Line respectively.

Commuters have welcomed this new move of the Metro Authorities. Passengers’ response about this new QR Code Paper-Based ticketing system has been very good today.
