Here is  good news for Metro commuters!  The next time a commuter wishes to recharge or top-up his smart card he can do so from the comfort of his home without physically going to the counter. Metro Railway has developed  a very user- friendly method of recharging smart cards online for its commuters. Shri Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway has launched this facility on 30.06.2020 at Metro Rail Bhavan.

In order to avail this facility, Metro smart card users will have to visit Metro Railway Kolkata website https://mtp.indianrailways.gov.in and click on the “on-line recharge” option after which a very user – friendly menu driven facility will guide the commuters to the payment option.

No transaction charges have to be paid by the commuters for recharging their smart cards. However, they will continue to get a 10 per cent bonus on the  recharging amount of their smart cards as before.  Anyone willing to recharge their smart cards can use SBI debit cards, any other bank’s debit cards or credit cards, UPI App, Net banking or by using the  YONO App.

Shri Joshi dedicated this facility to the  Metro commuters  and said that it will fulfill their  long standing demand of on-line recharging of smart cards. He also thanked State Bank of India and CRIS for their support and cooperation

Shri D.S. Nirkha, General Manager, State Bank of India, Eastern Zone was also present at this function.

At present there are  7 lakh active smart card users of Kolkata Metro.  From now onwards, they will be able to recharge their smart cards  online. However, commuters can also recharge their smart cards from the ticket counters as before.

A  flow chart of the menu driven facility is enclosed for the commuters ready reference.
