PRESS RELEASE

ONLY 600 PASSENGERS AVAILING THE SPECIAL METRO SERVICES AT NIGHT DAILY

Kolkata, 18.06.2024:

For the convenience of the Metro users, Metro Railway authorities have decided to run special night services on experimental basis on Blue Line from 24.05.2024. These services leave Kavi Subhash and Dumdum stations at 11:00 p.m. and are available from Monday to Friday.

Keeping in view the demand of a section of passengers, these services were introduced with the hope that it would be beneficial for a large section of Metro commuters to reach their destinations at night. But it has been observed that on an average 600 passengers have been availing these services on both UP and DN directions and Metro Railway has been earning only Rs.6000/- by running these services.

In order to run these special night services on Blue Line, the expenses per train of Metro Railway have been Rs. 1,35,000/- . That means for running these two services Metro authorities have been spending around Rs. 2,70,000/- per day. Apart from that there are other costs which come out to be around Rs.50,000/-.

So it is quite evident from the above statistics that Metro Railway authorities have been incurring huge expenses to run these two services. In spite of publicizing the introduction of these daily night services, commuters' responses have not been encouraging.
