PRESS RELEASE

DEMAND OF SMART CARDS INCREASING IN BLUE LINE

Kolkata, Date: 19.05.2024

For the benefit of the commuters, Metro authorities introduced Smart Card so that they don't need to purchase tokens every time they travel in the Metro. With every passing day this Smart Card is becoming more popular amongst the Metro users. As a result, 26,979 Smart Cards were sold from different stations of Blue Line in April 2024. In April, 2023, 20,091 Smart Cards were sold in Blue Line. This is an increase of 34%. Opening of new Corridors like Green Line 2 and Orange Line which are also connected with Blue Line has played a crucial role in increasing this figure as more and more commuters are interchanging at Esplanade and Kavi Subhash with the help of this Smart Card.

It is to be noted that Smart Cards are helping Metro commuters to save their valuable time as they don’t need to stand in the long queues in front of the booking counters to buy tickets.
