GENERAL MANAGER FELICITATES METRO SPORTSPERSONS

Kolkata, Date:- 08.04.2024

Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway has felicitated 56 sportspersons for their outstanding achievements in International, National and Zonal levels in recent time today i.e. o­n 08.04.2024 at a function organised by Metro Railway Sports Association at Metro Rail Bhavan. Out of 6 Metro teams, 5 teams have registered medal winning performances in All India Railway (AIR) Championships.

Total 62 Metro sportsperson have been felicitated today. 14 of them have participated in various games in National Championships and 4 of them participated in International events like Asian Games.

These sportspersons include ShriSumitMukherjee, who has represented Indian Team in 18th Asian Games at Jakarta and wonBronze Medal in Bridge as well asin 19th Asian Games at China and won Silver Medal. He also represented Indian Railways in 65th Winter National Bridge Championship and won Gold Medal. ShriSayantanDas, 81st Grand Master of India, represented Indian Railways in 43rd National Team Chess Championship at Dharamsala and won Silver Medal and also represented India in SA Chess Championship 2023 at Nepal and won Silver Medal. Miss Poymantee Baisya, represented Indian Railways in 85th Sr. National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship at Panchkula, Haryana. She has won Women’s Single – Gold Medal, Team Bronze Medal, Mixed Doubles- Silver Medal, Women’s Double – Gold Medal. She has also represented India in ITTF Mixed Team World Cup, China. Shri AkashPandey, represented Indian Railways in Ranji Trophy and has made record by taking 9 wickets in an innings against Goa. Shri DebabrataMajumder, represented Indian Railways in 65th Winter National Bridge Championship andwon Gold Medal. ShriSagnikRoy, represented Indian Railways in 65th Winter National Bridge Championship and won Gold Medal.

Terming all these sportspersons as “ Our Pride”, General Manager has expressed his hope that in future too they will continue to make Metro fraternity proud. Senior Metro officials were present in this programme.
