METRO TO RECONSTRUCT THE GALLERY OF SAILEN MANNA STADIUM AT HOWRAH MAIDAN

Kolkata,Date:- 04.04.2024

Metro services from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade stretch of Green Line have started from 15.03.2024. In order to construct this underground stretch, implementing authority, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (KMRCL) has taken some land of Sailen Manna Stadium at Howrah Maidan in 2014 with the promise of restoration and handing over the same land to the stadium authority after completion of work. As the work of this stretch has been completed with commencement of commercial services, which has become very popular, KMRCL authorities are now waiting for the approval of the drawing of the proposed gallery submitted to District Magistrate and Collector of Howrah. This drawing was submitted to Howrah DM o­n 05.12.2023. Prior to that, approval of the drawing for building this gallery was taken from Howrah Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department (Roads) also. Officials of these two government agencies have signed the drawing prior to its submission to DM.

Till now KMRCL has not received any approval necessary to start the work. o­n 23.01.2024 a reminder was also given to Howrah DM and Collector. o­nce the gallery is constructed KMRCL will also build the boundary wall of the stadium and will hand it over to the authority. Due to administrative delay, this work is not getting completed. KMRCL will stick to the promise made at the time of acquisition of this piece of land to stadium authority. o­nce the green signal is given work will start immediately.
