59% increase in commissioning of

New Lines in between 2014-19

Kolkata  13th July, 2019 :-

·Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Railway Minister in his speech o­n “Demands for Grants” in the Parliament has said that there has been a 59% increase in commissioning of new lines, doubling, tripling and quadrupling of railway lines between 2014 and 2019.


·He has further informed that during 2014-19 13,687 route km electrification were completed.


·Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister has planned to increase the production capacity of Raebareli Modern Coach Factory to 5,000 coaches making it the biggest in the world.


·After 2014 works of Dedicated Freight Corridor project have been speeded up and Rs.39,000 crores have been spent and  1,900 km track linking work have been completed.


·Finance Minister has also announced that Rs.50 lakhs crores investment will be done in the Railways. Out of this, Rs.6 lakh crores will be spent in laying new lines in high density network. For Golden Quadrilateral Project Rs.1.5 lakh crores will be spent, he said.


·Train accidents have been reduced from 118 in 2013-14 to 59 in 2018-19.


·In the last five years, 457 escalators and 377 lifts have been installed at various railway stations, Shri Goyal informed.


·Till now, Indian Railways has fitted 2,10,000 bio-toilets in different trains. The target is to install bio-toilets in all the trains by 2020-21. Shri Goyal has assured that this work will be completed in the next twelve months.


·He has further added that Automatic Data Loggers have been integrated with the present system to track and enhance punctuality of trains.
