TRAFFIC BLOCK REQUIRED BEYOND BELEGHATA STATION LIMIT TO COMPLY HIS OBSERVATION

Kolkata, Date: 30.03.2024

Shri Janak Kumar Garg, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety has completed his two-day inspection of Noapara to DumDum Cantonment stretch of Yellow Line and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata stretch of Orange Line yesterday. After the inspection, Safety Commission has expressed its dissatisfaction and verbally advised to construct additional 90-meter viaduct beyond Beleghata station limit for signal overlap and Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Beleghata to enable commuters to cross the busy E.M.Bypass to enter Beleghata station safely.

These works have been held up due to non-availability of traffic block on E.M. Bypass.

In order to comply these observations of Safety Commission, these two major works are to be completed early. Metro Railway and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited ( RVNL) officials are trying their best to obtain NOC for the all necessary traffic block from Traffic Police in order to get the work done so that Orange Line can be extended up to Beleghata from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station.

RVNL authorities have written letters to Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic Department on 05.01.24, again on 12.03.24 and 14.03.24 requesting him to provide NOC for the Traffic Block to carry out the work. on 06.02.24, a letter issued to the Commissioner of Police of Kolkata Police requesting him to provide NOC for traffic diversion  to construct one span (P167-P168), middle support at median  of E.M. Bypass for FOB at Beleghata station.

Necessary diversion road, extra widening of the road, new road bridge have been constructed by RVNL and proper illumination has also been done as per the requirement of Traffic Department to mitigate any traffic issue during this block.

Several rounds of meetings and joint site inspection have also been conducted.

Still  now necessary NOC has not been issued resulting  unnecessary delay of the project.
