The entire Metro team worked unitedly in 2018-19 to ensure progress and development in Metro Railway. Their concerted endeavour has helped in achieving the goal and the Esplanade Metro Station has been declared as the “Best Kept Station” in the financial year 2018-19.

During this programme, Shri P.C. Sharma, General Manager, Metro Railway honoured the selected band of sincere and dedicated staff & officers who have rendered their meritorious services to the Railways in different spheres in 2018-19.

During the year 2018-19, the following has been the highlighted achievements:-

  • Operating ratio at an all time low :-

    The operating ratio has dipped from 278 in 2017-18 to 248 in 2018-19, a decrease by 10.79%. This confirms a robust improvement in Metro’s financial health.

    The overall earnings in the last fiscal was Rs. 234.87 crores, which is a record 11.77% more than 2017-18.

    In 2018-19, Metro Railway’s passenger earning was Rs. 201.68 crore as against Rs.193.95 crore in 2017-18 which is an increase of 3.99%.

    Cumulative sundry earnings or non fare revenue was 33.19 crores in 2018-19 as against Rs. 16.18 crores in 2017-18 i.e. a growth of 105.13%

  • Passenger amenities

  • Overaged NGEF rakes rehabilitated with improved seats, floor, lighting etc.

  • RO drinking water facilities provided at all stations.

  • For the convenience of the Metro users we are now running 4 AC Plant at Rabindra Sadan and 3 at Park Street to maintain congenial environment at stations.

  • PET bottle crusher provided at six major stations.

  • For movement of the visually challenged, tactile tiles have been provided at stations.

  • Announcements of the arriving and approaching stations are being made inside trains.

  • Seats for Physically Challenged:-

  • In Trains – 92 (in AC rakes) & 84 (in non-AC rakes)

  • All platforms have chairs earmarked for Divyang & Sr. Citizens.

  • 13 lifts are available at 7 stations for Sr. Citizens/ Disabled and Divyangs.

  • Escalators:-

We have already replaced 4 over-aged escalators of Dum Dum. We will replace 13 more over-aged escalators at various stations during the year 2019-20.

Replacement work of 02 escalators is going o­n atDum Dum, 02 at Belgachia, 01 at Central, 02 at Esplanade, 02 at Rabindra Sadan, 01 at Chandni Chawk, 02 at Netaji Bhavan and 01 at Rabindra Sarobar.

05 new escalators will be commissioned ; 01 at Mahatma Gandhi Road, 03 at Esplanade and 01 at Shyambazar within this calendar year.

  • Strengthened Safety & Security:-

Metro Railway has been organising regular safety seminars and Mock fire/ Evacuation drill for the safety and security of the passengers. Such drills are also carried out in association with NDRF, NSG, Kolkata Police and WBFS.

In order to educate staff about use of fire equipment viz fire extinguisher, fire appliance etc. 1620 staff have been trained during the period 01.04.18 to 31.03.19 at all 24 stations. 818 staff have been trained for Fire Hydrant Drill imparted by Fire branch of Metro Railway in the year 2018-19.

Prevention of crime against women commuters in Metro stations is a challenging issue. In this head, 12 cases have been detected and 22 offenders were arrested and handed over to police for legal action.

37 children were rescued by RPF and handed over to their parents/ Local P.S./ NGOs with proper acknowledgement for their due care.

RPF rescued 20 persons from committing suicide in Metro Railway.

18 cases of passenger related crime under IPC i.e. Mobile lifting, pick-pocketing and luggage lifting etc. and in this regard arrested 20 offenders.

  • Cleanliness:-

Special seven days cleanliness drive at Metro Railway Stations in each month has been taken up from Jan’2019 to June’2019 in order to keep hygiene and increase the standard of cleanliness at Metro Stations to meet the desired level of cleanliness at Entry/ Exit Surface Gates. Month-wise full report is obtained indicating the location and public interfaces given special attention, in prescribed format.

The cleanliness activities are carried out departmentally with the help of House Keeping Assistants. Regular cleanliness drives are being conducted at Metro stations, which are supervised by Officers and Supervisors of different departments. Automatic Scrubber Drier machines and Manual Sweeping Machines (Flippers) have been provided at seven major station.

To ensure cleanliness, 4035 cases registered from 01.04.18 to 31.03.19 against Nuisance, Spitting, Smoking and littering etc. A fine to the tune of ₹10,46,750/- was realized .

  • Green Initiative:-

Metro Railway has taken all measures to reduce energy consumption by introducing 100% LED at all stations, via-ducts, tunnel and shops. Thereby saved 3.47 MU worth ₹ 2.4 Cr. per annum. By installing VVVF drive escalators and tunnel ventilation fan we have saved 1.2 MU worth ₹ 0.84 Cr. per annum. We have started our solar journey mission in the year 2012. In the year 2018-19 we have generated 5.85 MU and thereby saved ₹0.41 Cr.

  • New Projects:-

    Work of East West Corridor of Metro Railway is in full swing. The elevated section stretching over 6 kms (consisting of 6 stations), is going to be commissioned shortly.

Construction work of Bimanbandar underground yard, the largest underground yard to be in India, is in full swing. During the year 100% piling work (294piles) and diaphragm wall (1215m length) has been completed.

1500 nos. saplings have been planted at Quarters and near Bimanbandar Metro station and yard during World environment day celebrated o­n 11th June, 2019.

  • Scouts:-

    The Bharat Scouts & Guides, Metro Railway, who organised various programmes like expedition to various mountains, rock climbing course, Tree Plantation, Family Development Programme including Annual voluntary Blood Donation Camp, Swachch Bharat Mission activities, etc.

  • MRWWO Activities:-

    The members of Metro Railway Women Welfare Organisation (MRWWO) for their continued support which gave strength and inspiration to all our accomplishment. They organise noble programme such as Drawing/Painting competition for children, periodically.
