PRESS RELEASE

Kolkata, Date:20.10.2023

Subho Maha Sasthi!!

As expected passenger count in Kolkata Metro has again took a jump and neared 8 lakhs mark on Maha Panchami. This has been possible as commuters are preferring Metro over other modes of transport to reach their destinations in Puja days safely and quickly. Apart from the daily commuters, shoppers, travelers, pandal hoppers have found it convenient to take the Metro on Maha Panchami evening.

This has got reflected in passenger count in North-South Metro (Blue Line). on 19.10.2023 (Maha Panchami), North-South Metro has carried 7,92,060 passengers. Total 288 services were run on that day to cater to the Metro users.

On 19.10.2023, maximum passenger count i.e. 80362 was recorded at Dumdum. Esplanade recorded 63189 passenger count, closely followed by Kalighat with 63047. Shovabazar-Sutanuti recorded 50301 passenger count.

It is to be noted that for the convenience of the pandal hoppers, Metro Railway has made elaborate arrangements to run night-long services in North-South Corridor on Saptami, Astami and Nabami. In East-West Corridor services will be run till mid-night on these three days. In order to cater to the increasing rush, leaves of all Metro officers and staff have been cancelled. All ticket counters have been opened at the stations so that passengers won't have to wait long in queues to purchase Smart Cards and tokens.
