PASSENGER COUNT IN NORTH-SOUTH METRO CROSSES
7 LAKHS MARK IN BLUE LINE AGAIN

It’s Puja time again!!
As expected Kolkata Metro has become the mainstay of transportation system of the ‘City of Joy’ in the Puja rush. More and more passengers prefer Metro to avoid the heavy traffic on the roads in Kolkata in order to reach their destinations fast. As a result Metro sees surge in passenger number. Passenger count in North-South Metro (Blue Line) has crossed 7 lakhs mark on 17.10.2023 (Tuesday) after a year. North-South Metro has carried 7,06,657 passengers on 17.10.2023 (Tritiya). Total 288 services were run on that day to cater to the Metro users. Last time on 01.10.2022, passenger count in North-South Metro crossed 7 lakhs mark. on that day (it was Sasthi) total 7,24,900 passengers travelled in Metro on this corridor.
On 17.10.2023, maximum passenger count i.e. 75,340 were recorded at Dumdum. Esplanade recorded 54,821 passenger count, Rabindra Sadan recorded 44,545, followed by Kalighat with 43,871 passenger count.
It is to be noted that for the convenience of the pandal hoppers, Metro Railway has made elaborate arrangements to run night-long services in North-South Corridor on Saptami, Astami and Nabami. In East-West Corridor services will be run till mid-night on these three days.
