PRESS RELEASE

GENERAL MANAGER INSPECTS BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (BESS) AT MASTERDA SURYA SEN METRO STATION

 Kolkata, Date:17.08.2023

Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway inspected the North-South Metro stretch from Jatin Das Park to Kavi Subhash stations on 16.08.2023. During this inspection, he personally took keen interest in inspecting the soon-to-be-introduced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Masterda Surya Sen Metro station. This new system, an amalgamation of inverters and Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) Batteries, is capable of doing wonders in case of a sudden power cuts or grid failure. This BESS system can haul stranded rakes inside the tunnels or on viaduct to the safety of nearest Metro station in case of  sudden power cuts. Shri Reddy also inspected the older power backup system which is currently in use at the Metro stations.

General Manager started his inspection from Jatin Das Park Metro station after the commercial hours. During his journey to Masterda Surya Sen, he inspected the newly installed anti door opening system in a Medha rake (MR-416). The system ensures the safety of passengers by not opening the doors in between the stations as well as the doors opposite to the platform. Shri Ashim Majumder, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Metro Railway explained him the functioning of the system during this inspection, in which other senior officers were also present.

Shri Reddy expressed his satisfaction about the system and hoped that the system will enhance the passenger safety manifold.
