METRO RAILWAY OBSERVES 77TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

 

Kolkata, Date: 15.08.2023

 

Metro Railway celebrated 77th Independence Day today o­n 15.08.2023. Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway unfurled the National flag at Metro Rail Bhavan and inspected the parade of Metro RPF this morning.

 

In his address to the railwaymen, their families and the media persons, General Manager spoke about the achievements of Metro Railway in various sectors. He has also informed that East-West Metro will be extended from Sealdah to Howrah Maidan in 2024. Works of other Metro projects in the city have been progressing smoothly. Metro Railway has been playing a pivotal role in providing a smooth and hassle-free journey for its commuters, he added. From April 2022 to March 2023, 17.7 crores passengers have availed Metro services in Kolkata and Metro has created a new record by running a rake under the mighty river Hooghly, first of its kind in India o­n 12th April 2023. Howrah Metro station is going to become the deepest Metro station in India very soon, Shri Reddy informed in his speech.

 

Metro Railway authorities are working very hard to ensure maintenance of assets and improving safety, passenger amenities and reliability standards, General Manager added.

 

A bell fountain was also inaugurated at the courtyard of Metro Rail Bhavan by Shri B.C. Roy, Secretary to GM, Metro Railway in presence of General Manager to mark the occasion. Shri V.K. Srivastava, Principal Chief Engineer and Additional General Manager, all Principal Heads of Departments, Smt. P Sreelatha, President, Metro Railway Women Welfare Organization (MRWWO) and other members of MRWWO were present in this programme.

 

Later, Smt. P Sreelatha, President, Metro Railway Women Welfare Organization (MRWWO) and other members of MRWWO distributed fruits among the patients at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital today.
