ALERTNESS OF MOTORMAN FOILS A SUICIDE BID AT
MAHATMA GANDHI ROAD METRO STATION

Today i.e. on 19.07.2023 at about 12:14 hrs, a middle-aged man, around 58 years of age suddenly jumped on the DN tracks at Mahatma Gandhi Road Metro station in front of an approaching Metro with the intention to commit suicide. Alert driving Motorman, seeing this, immediately stopped the train by applying the emergency brake and saved the life of the man. The on-duty RPF and other station staff immediately rushed to the spot and he was rescued at about 12:16 hrs. Finally, Metro RPF and other Metro officials lifted him from the tracks and took him to the Station Master’s office. During interrogation, he confessed that he was trying to commit suicide due to his health problems.
His family members were contacted over phone and briefed about this incident at 12:30 hrs. Later, he was handed over to his wife and brother in presence of Police personnel after observing all official formalities.
Metro services were not disrupted even after this suicide attempt due to the promptness and alertness of the on-duty Metro staff of Mahatma Gandhi Road Metro station.
Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway has expressed his happiness as a precious life could be saved due to the alertness of Metro Motorman. Praising the Motorman he said, “Such act will inspire all to work for further brightening the image of the organization”.
