ESPLANADE METRO STATION AWARDED “EAT RIGHT STATION”

Here is another good news for Metro commuters! Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recognized the foods served at Kolkata Metro’s station premises as quality foods. It is a proud moment for all the stakeholders of Metro fraternity.
Esplanade Metro station has been awarded “Eat Right Station” certification for providing high quality, nutritious food to the commuters by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. FSSAI awards this certification to Railway stations adhering to laid down standard food storage and hygiene practices thus by setting benchmarks in providing safe and wholesome food to passengers. FSSAI-empanelled third party audit agency checks the stipulated hygiene check-list that covers common areas at the platform, basic cleanliness, hygiene, water facility, waste disposal and other parameters. They also check the food vendors of the station like restaurants/ food courts / small vendor kiosks / retail outlets / booths to monitor whether they are following safe cooking and handling practices during preparations and serving to the Railway passengers.
This certification is part of the “Eat Right India” movement by FSSAI to transform the countries food system to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians. The strict parameters ensure that the food served in the station premises are healthy, hygienic and fresh.
Crowned with this certification for the period till 19th February, 2025, Esplanade has become the fourth railway station in West Bengal after Kolkata, Asansol and Durgapur. In the overall list Esplanade is the 26thstation in Indian Railways network to be awarded such certification. Not only that, Esplanade Metro station has become one of the two Metro stations in the country, beside Noida Sector – 51 Metro station, which has been awarded this certification so far.
Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway has expressed his satisfaction for this marvelous feat. He said, “This certification is a testimony of the Metro Railway’s initiatives to provide best practices and amenities to its commuters. It will encourage all Metromen to work for achieving more such glories in the coming days.”
