PRESS RELEASE
AN UNAUTHORISED STRUCTURE BLOCKS MAJERHAT METRO CONSTRUCTION
Kolkata, Date:30.05.2023
Construction works of all Metro projects in Kolkata have been going on in full swing. Govt. of India, under the visionary leadership of honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been allocating enough budget provision for speedy completion of these projects. Honourable Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw has been personally monitoring the progress of works. A perceptible change has been witnessed as new Metro lines are being opened or about to be opened in Kolkata Metro.
Keeping pace with the other under-construction corridors, construction works of Joka-Esplanade Metro Corridor (Purple Line) has also got momentum. Already, commercial services on Joka-Taratala stretch of this Corridor have started and efforts are on to extend this service up to Majerhat very soon. But an unauthorised structure on busy Diamond Harbour Road has been blocking the construction of Majerhat Metro station. Construction work in Majerhat Metro station has been going in full swing but this 13.6 metre X 9.2 metre structure has been creating problem in completing the construction. This unauthorized structure on railway land adjacent to the proposed OCC (Operation Control Center) is to be removed in order to construct one stair and escalator for entry/exit to Majerhat Metro station as per the approved plan. This construction of stair and escalator is being held up due to this unauthorized structure.
It is to be noted that all out effort for the extension of Purple Line from Taratala to Majerhat by this Puja has been taken by Metro Railway authorities and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL). Majority of the work on this challenging route has successfully been completed. A 50-metre long Girder has been erected over the busy Majerhat Railway yard and Diamond Harbour Road. With such a success of creating an engineering marvel, RVNL has reached the final stage of construction of this station. Unfortunately, this unauthorized structure on the said land has been deferring the completion of construction of this station. RVNL has sought help from concerned authorities for the removal of this structure at the earliest and complete the rest of the work within the stipulated deadline.
Once Majerhat Metro station is commissioned, thousands of passengers will be benefited as it will become the interchanging point of Metro Railway and Eastern Railway.
