MEMBER INFRA INSPECTED HOWRAH MAIDAN TO SEALDAH STRETCH OF EAST-WEST METRO

Kolkata, 16th April, 2023

Shri Roop.N.Sunkar, Member Infrastructure, Railway Board  inspected Howrah Maidan to Sealdah stretch of East-West Metro today i.e. o­n 16.04.2023. During this inspection Shri H.N.Jaiswal, Principal Chief Engineer, Metro Railway and Managing Director, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) and other senior officials accompanied him.

Shri Sunkar, started this inspection from Howrah Maidan Metro station where he inspected different passenger amenities like lifts, escalators, ticket counters, Tunnel Ventilation System, Station Cooling Arrangements etc. He also conducted trolley inspection from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade Metro station under the river Hooghly. o­n his way to Esplanade Shri Sunkar passed through the tunnel under the river Hooghly and inspected a Cross Passage. During his inspection of Howrah Metro station, going to be the deepest Metro station in the country he enquired about different technical parameters of the station and took stock of the passenger amenities to be provided there.

At Esplanade Metro station Member Infra checked the passenger inter-changing arrangements to be made available here o­nce East-West Metro starts commercial services from Sealdah to Howrah Maidan. Esplanade Metro station is going to be o­ne of the most important stations of both North-South and East-West corridors. After completing Esplanade Metro station inspection Shri Sunkar personally  went to see Bowbazar area where disasters have hampered the progress of Metro work. He undertook an inspection o­n foot inside the tunnel. He paid a visit to Sealdah Metro station and held a Press Conference there. Interacting with the media persons Shri Sunkar expressed his satisfaction about the progress of Metro work at Bowbazar disaster hit zone. All the arrangements have been made to address the issue and works at Bowbazar will be over by December, 2023, he told the media persons.  He also inspected the stretch from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V of East-West Metro Corridor in a Metro.

Later, Member, Infra also inspected Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station of the Orange Line.
