ANOTHER FEATHER IN EAST-WEST METRO’S CROWN, FOOTFALLS TOUCH 66000

East-West Metro has set another record! Passenger count in the Green Line of Kolkata Metro has touched 66,000 yesterday i.e., o­n 11.02.2023!

Thanks to 46th International Kolkata Book Fair that over the last week footfalls in this Corridor has been constantly increasing as reaching Book Fair has become easy in Metro. Not o­nly that, returning home from the Mela ground is now not a problem as Metro is available till 22.00 hrs. even o­n Sundays. 

Shri Kausik Mitra, CPRO, Metro Railway has said, “To make this Book Fair o­ne of the remarkable events of this year, we, the Metro authorities have introduced the Sunday Services for the first time in East-West Corridor o­nly to provide services to the book lovers of Kolkata and the suburbs.”

In order to make this Book Fair a special o­ne, Kolkata Metro authorities have taken all possible measures. Additional counters have been opened at Sealdah, Central Park and Karunamoyee to cater to the extra rush. Adequate number of tokens and Smart Cards are also available at counters to handle sudden surge in demands. Security arrangements have also been tightened at these three stations to manage the rush. Additional staff have also been deployed for the benefit of the commuters.

As a result, footfalls in Green Line have increased significantly since 31.01.2023. Yesterday passenger count was 66,000, an all-time high in this Corridor. Sealdah as usual was the busiest station yesterday recording 24883 footfalls. Karunamoyee and Salt Lake sector V witnessed 20319 and 6830 footfalls.
