HEMANTA MUKHOPADHYAY STATION TO BECOME THE GATEWAY FOR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE AND MEDICAL HUB

Kolkata, 12.02.2023

Days are not far away when Metros will start plying o­n Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of the Orange Line. With the opening of this 5.4 kms stretch, the first phase of Orange Line, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station will be o­ne of the terminating stations o­n this stretch having five stations. 

Once this much awaited stretch of Kavi Subhash to Airport via Rajarhat Metro Project is commissioned, it will open up a very convenient mode of transport for commuters. Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station will be an interchanging point of Metro network with road transport. As this station will connect o­ne of the busiest traffic junctions of Kolkata o­n E.M. Bypass, popularly known as Ruby More with city Metro network, footfalls at this station are expected to be high. People will be able to go to nearby Kasba Industrial Estate after getting down at this station. As educational institutes of repute are also situated in the vicinity of this station, so students and teachers of different schools and colleges, guardians coming from within the city or districts will prefer to use this station to reach their destinations easily. As Orange Line, Blue Line and Eastern Railway’s suburban line will be linked at Kavi Subhas station so commuters from Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Howrah and South 24 Parganas coming to the city for treatment at the nearby Medical Hub will use Orange Line and get down at Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station.  For this, integrated ticketing system will be in place for the convenience of the commuters. Metro commuters won’t have to purchase separate tickets while interchanging at Kavi Subhash station. This station will also bring relief to thousands of passport applicants as they will now be able to reach nearby Passport Office comfortably without traffic snarls. 

State of the art passenger amenities are going to be provided at the newly built Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station. There are 9 escalators, 4 lifts provided at this station. Apart from these, 11 public staircases will also be there. For ensuring passenger safety and security, this station area will come under the surveillance of 18 Close Circuit TV Cameras. 13 AFC gates have been installed at this station to ensure hassle-free movement of passengers.

Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station will also have two spacious platforms of 180 metre length. There will be adequate ticket counters, sitting benches, first aid room, toilets for ladies, gents and divyangjan, Public Address System, digital display boards, emergency lighting facility for the convenience of the passengers., tactile floor indicators for the blind. In addition to these, there is state of the art smoke extraction, fire detection and suppression system at this station.

               Shri Kausik Mitra , CPRO, Metro Railway  has said, "This aesthetically designed Hemanta Mukhopadhyay station o­n E.M. Bypass, popularly known as Ruby More with its beautiful decoration and spacious concourse is waiting to be o­ne of the busiest Metro stations in the city".
