Metro Railway, Kolkata, celebrated its 31 years of service to “The City of Joy” today, i.e. 20.11.2015.
As part of this programme, a first ever philately exhibition of unique and rare stamps on global Railways was organized at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Metro Railway station which has been opened for the viewing of the public at this station.
To mark the occasion, a special cover on stamps of Metro Railway was released today jointly by Ms. Arundhaty Ghosh, Chief Post Master General, Kolkata Circle and Shri A.K. Kapoor, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata inside a running Metro. Stamps have also been displayed inside a running AC Metro train which will run throughout the day to enable commuters to view the rare stamps on display. A musical programme was also arranged in the same running Metro which was highly appreciated by the travelling passengers on board.
An awareness campaign on Swachh Bharat Mission - “Clean Metro, Green Metro” was organised in association with an NGO ‘Agantuk’ at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station where school children of the locality participated wholeheartedly.
