METRO CELEBRATES 31 YEARS OF SERVICE TO “THE CITY OF JOY” BY HOLDING A PHILATELY EXHIBITION

Kolkata, 20thNovember, 2015:-

 

Metro Railway, Kolkata, celebrated its 31 years of service to “The City of Joy” today, i.e. 20.11.2015.  

As part of this programme, a first ever philately exhibition of unique and rare stamps o­n global Railways was organized at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Metro Railway station which has been opened for the viewing of the public at this station. 

To mark the occasion, a special cover o­n stamps of Metro Railway was released today jointly by Ms. Arundhaty Ghosh, Chief Post Master General, Kolkata Circle and Shri A.K. Kapoor, General Manager, Metro Railway, Kolkata inside a running Metro.  Stamps have also been displayed inside a running AC Metro train which will run throughout the day to enable commuters to view the rare stamps o­n display.  A musical programme was also arranged in the same running Metro which was highly appreciated by the travelling passengers o­n board.

An awareness campaign o­n Swachh Bharat Mission - “Clean Metro, Green Metro” was organised in association with an NGO ‘Agantuk’ at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station where school children of the locality participated wholeheartedly.
