PRESS CONFERENCE OF EASTERN RAILWAY, METRO RAILWAY & EASTERN RAILWAY’S SEALDAH DIVISION on KUMBH MELA ARRANGEMENTS BY THE RAILWAYS

A Press Conference was organized by Eastern Railway Headquarters participated by Public Relations Officers of Eastern Railway, Metro Railway and Sealdah division of Eastern Railway to brief the media persons regarding special arrangements made by Indian Railways to facilitate to & fro journey of the Kumbh Mela pilgrims. In the conference, the elaborate arrangements from running of special trains to augmented passenger amenities, facilities etc. were discussed.

• Top level Railway officials including GM/North Central Railway, DRM/Prayag, Varanasi and Lucknow camping at Prayag.
• Round the clock Monitoring at Station/Division/Zonal and Railway Board level is going on.
• Hon’ble Railway Minister is also regularly monitoring the running of trains to Prayagraj from War Room of Railway Board.
There are 8 Railway stations in Prayagraj City from where passengers of different directions can catch their train on main bathing days.
1) Prayagraj Jn., 2) Naini Jn., 3) Prayagraj Chheoki, 4) Subedarganj,
5) Prayag Jn., 6) Phaphamau Jn., 7)Prayagraj Rambag, 8) Jhusi.
In addition to this, pilgrims can also aval services from Prayagraj Sangam station on other than peak days. So, all the trains are running to the close vicinity of Prayagraj area to facilitate the holy bath of Mahakumbh.

Operation of Kumbh Mela Special and Regular Trains from 08 Stations in Prayagraj Region
On February 9, 2025, a total of 330 trains, including Mela Special and regular trains, were operated from eight Railway stations of the Prayagraj region—Prayagraj Junction, Prayag, Phaphamau, Prayagraj Rambagh, Jhusi, Subedarganj, Naini, and Prayagraj Chheoki and facilitated the travel of approximately 12.50 lakh (1.25 million) devotees.
By 3:00 PM on February 10, 2025, 191 trains had been operated, ensuring smooth travel for approximately 8.18 lakh (818,000) devotees. The smooth operation of such a large number of regular and special trains from all eight stations in the Prayagraj region is being managed through a well-planned strategy and continuous monitoring by the railway authorities.
To support this large-scale operation, additional staff, extra rakes, proper maintenance of rakes, CCTV monitoring, control towers, passenger shelters, and platform supervision by railway officials and employees have been arranged. Trains are being dispatched efficiently to maximize operations, while special attention is being given to passenger facilities, medical assistance, and security.
Throughout the entire Mela period, the Railway has planned to operate approximately 13,450 trains, including 10,028 regular trains and over 3,400 special trains. The Railway authorities have ensured that all trains are being operated as per the planned schedule. Some trains have been rerouted as per prior notifications, while the terminal station for certain trains has been changed from Prayagraj to Subedarganj.
For passengers’ convenience, continuous train operations are being conducted from Prayagraj station to all directions as per demand. General Manager, Shri Upendra Chandra Joshi is monitoring the situation from the War Room, while Divisional Railway Manager, Shri Himanshu Badoni is overseeing operations from the Control Room to ensure smooth management of train services.
