METRO RAILWAY OBSERVES 76TH REPUBLIC DAY

Kolkata, 26th January, 2025: -

Today, o­n 26th January, 2025, Metro Railway, Kolkata has observed the 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and fervour. Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway unfurled the National Flag at Metro Rail Bhavan this morning and took the Guard of Honour from Metro RPF.

In his address to the officers & staff of Metro Railway and Media persons, he spoke about the spectacular achievements of Metro Railway in various spheres in recent time, its glorious past and highlighted the phenomenal growth in passenger traffic by improving asset utilisation and efficiency in operations as well as opening new Metro routes. General Manager specially focused o­n the achievements of Passenger Amenities & Passenger Security. Shri Reddy has informed that the section of East-West Metro Corridor from Esplanade to Sealdah (2.45 km), Section of Yellow Line from Noapara to Jai Hind BimanBandar (7.04 km) and Section of Orange Line from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata (4.39 km) will be commissioned in this year. QR Code Based Paper Ticketing System has been introduced in all the stations of Blue Line. Both Mobile QR code and Paper based QR code has been introduced in Metro, Shri Reddy added. Different digital payment modes introduced for the convenience of the commuters in different corridors has been well accepted and are becoming popular everyday. The Operating Ratio of Metro Railway has improved in the financial year 2024-25 to 235 % in comparison to 254% during the corresponding period of the last year.

Metro staff and their wards presented a cultural programme to mark the occasion.

Later, an Open Gym and a Children Park were inaugurated by Smt. P Sreelatha, President, Metro Railway Women Welfare Organization (MRWWO) and other members of the organisation, in presence of Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager. They also planted saplings here. A solar power plant of 148 KW capacity was also inaugurated at Belgachia Quarter Complex by Shri Dilip Karmakar, Technician-II, in presence of Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager and other senior officers, President and other members of MRWWO.
