SECRET BALLOT ELECTION IN METRO RAILWAY HELD PEACEFULLY
EVMS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN UNION ELECTION IN METRO RAILWAY AMONG ALL ZONES OF INDIAN RAILWAYS
Kolkata, 5th December, 2024
Secret Ballot Election-III in Metro Railway was held peacefully on 04.12.2024 and 05.12.2024 like other zones of Indian Railways. Around 90% voters have cast their votes in this election for the purpose of recognition of Trade Union in Metro Railway. Today i.e. on 05.12.2024 for the second consecutive day, this voting process continued in all the booths like yesterday where Metro staff enthusiastically turned up to exercise their voting rights. Four registered Trade Unions are contesting in this election and they earlier campaigned peacefully to draw the attention of the voters in their favour. After completion of this peaceful campaigning, voting has been held.
Voters have exercised their franchise in six booths at Metro Rail Bhavan, Park Street, Central Park Depot, Salt Lake, Officer’s Club at Tollygunge and Noapara Administrative Building peacefully in the last two days. RPF and State Police Personnel were deployed in adequate numbers to make this voting process free and fair.
For the first time in the history of union election, Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) have been introduced as a Pilot Project. Votes were also taken in ballot papers in this election which was held from 08.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs. on 04.12.2024 and 05.12.2024.
Counting of votes will take place on 12.12.2024.
