CONSTRUCTION WORK OF MOMINPUR -ESPLANADE STRETCH OF PURPLE LINEGOING on IN FULL SWING

Kolkata, Date: 22.11.2024

Construction work of the underground Mominpur -Esplanade stretch of Joka-Esplanade Metro Corridor (Purple Line) is going on in full swing. Two numbers of TBMs will be used for construction of twin tube bored tunnels having inner finished diameter of 5.80 m. The TBMs are being manufactured in factory located in Chennai with significant use of Local Content under ‘Make in India’ programme. The TBMs are expected to commence operations in March,2025.

The underground stations from Park Street to Esplanade of Purple Line will be constructed by Cut and Cover method. The rail levels of the underground section will be approximately 17 metre below ground level.

Approximate 1000 nos. of trees are infringing the locations of Cut and Cover tunnels and stations in Maidan area. All infringing trees are being transplanted instead of felling for sustaining an ecological balance between Environment and Development. Permission has been sought from Central Empowered Committee (CEC) for transplantation of trees as per the directive ofHon’ble Supreme Court.

The construction of the Mominpur – Esplanade stretch has been depicted in a Model Room which has been constructed by RVNL at the construction site of Victoria station. Scale Models of the Alignment, Underground Stations, Tunnel Linings, Soil Profiles, Machineries, Safety Gears, Instrumentation Markers along with Project Information have been nicely showcased in the Model Room. The Model Room will aid in understanding the construction of the underground Metro Railway section in a splendid manner.
