PRESS RELEASE

INTEGRATED MOBILE BASED QR TICKETING SYSTEM BECOMING POPULAR IN KOLKATA METRO

Kolkata,Date: 27.10.2024

Mobile Based Integrated QR Code Ticketing System has been gaining popularity with the passage of time.Around 3.21 lakh passengers have used this alternative mode of ticketing system at different Corridors of Metro Railway, Kolkata for going to their different destinations till 26.10.2024.

In April, 24   6616 commuters used this system, whereas in September,24   59362 commuters have used it which is an increase of 897% and till 26th October,24    220201 passengers used this Mobile QR based system which is an increase of 3328% in comparison to April,24.

Available data has revealed that this ticketing system is gradually becoming popular among Metro commuters.

Passengers have now been able to travel to any station across these Corridors by interchanging through seamless common paid to paid connectivity using the same Mobile Based QR Code Tickets by purchasing these  from home, office or on the go. With the help of this, passengers can avoid the long queues at the booking counters. This paperless ticket remains valid for 12 hours in a single calendar date after purchasing. Now, the commuters no longer need to carry any physical ticket to travel in the Metro.

The AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates of different stations of Blue Line and Orange Line have been upgraded to support this new ticketing system which reduces the environmental impact of usage of papers. This also reduces the carbon emission.

Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed this ticketing solution which is expected to gain more popularity in the coming days.
