CULTURAL EVENING TO CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF 40 YEARS SERVICE TO THE NATION BY METRO RAILWAY

 

Kolkata, October 24, 2024

 

Metro Railway, Kolkata has been celebrating the completion of 40 years of its glorious service to the Nation from 18th to 24th October, 2024 as Metro completes four decades today, i.e. 24.10.2024. As a part of these celebrations, a gala cultural evening was organized at Dr. B. C. Roy Auditorium Sealdah, this evening (24.10.2024) to make this celebrations of Metro Railway ever memorable. Metro over these four decades has become an indispensable part of the suburban transport system of Kolkata. With a humble beginning of o­nly 3.4 kilometers of Metro tracks over North-South (Blue Line) Metro route, Metro has at present stitched Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas together to become ‘Amar Metro’. Residents of Howrah, Hooghly, Medinipur, Burdwan, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia are availing Metro services from Howrah, Sealdah, Dumdum and Kavi Subhash stations regularly. Even passengers from other states are also availing services from Howrah and Sealdah. As a result, Metro is now carrying around 7 lakhs commuters daily.

 

A special video o­n the journey of Metro to become the major transport means of Kolkata and suburban areas was also shown to the audience. Among the distinguished guests present in today’s auspicious occasion were Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway, Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Shri Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, Shri Niraj Kumar, Chief Post Master General, West Bengal Circle and Smt. P. Sreelatha, President, Metro Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (MRWWO).

 

Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway, Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Shri Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway and Shri Niraj Kumar, Chief Post Master General, West Bengal Circle unveiled a special cover with my stamp of Metro to mark the 40 years.

 

Shri Niraj Kumar, Chief Post Master General, West Bengal Circle in his address has mentioned that Metro is the symbol ofpeople's aspiration to growth. Metro has provided comfort and dignity to passengers.

 

Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway in the keynote address has mentioned that by next year Metro will reach 90 km and by 2027 will touch 130 km. Metro is theLifeline to the Kolkatans and it has touched the lives of Kolkatans. These celebrations are to pay respect and recognition to the officers and employees who have worked hard over the last 40 years. In these four decades we have evolved from Non-AC rakes to AC rakes with state-of-the-art facilities, he said. He hasexpressed his hope that o­nce Howrah and Sealdah gets connected there will be surge of passengers.

 

On the occasion of this gala celebration of 40 years of Metro Railway the vocal magic of Smt. Shubha Mudgal captivated the audience followed by classical Sarod performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan which mesmerised the audience.
