HERITAGE RUN OF NGEF RAKE FOR COMMUTERS

CONDUCTED FROM MAHANAYAK UTTAM KUMAR STATION TO MAIDAN STATION TODAY

ANOTHER HERITAGE RUN FOR GENERAL COMMUTERS TOMORROW

It was second consecutive day today when an old NGEF rake chugged along the Metro tracks of Blue Line from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Maidan stations igniting the romance of Non-AC era of Metro Railway, Kolkata!   After the huge success of yesterday’s run, this special Heritage Run was organised today for general commuters as part of celebrating the completion of forty glorious years of service to the Nation of Metro Railway, Kolkata.

For ensuring the smooth run of this NGEF rake (Rake No: N-16/18), elaborate arrangements were made and special tickets were sold from the counters of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station.  Total sixty passengers enjoyed this ride o­n this 6.1 km stretch after purchasing tickets of Rs. 100 per head.

In today’s Heritage Ride, Rake No: N-16/18 was used. This rake was inducted in Metro’s fleet o­n 13.05.1992 and used for the last time for commercial service o­n 26.12.2020.  This Heritage Journey started from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Station at 13.02 hrs and ended at Maidan station at 13.19 hrs today.  All the o­n-board passengers were elated as the rake chugged along the stretch.  Commuters waiting for the Metro in between stations were also thrilled to see the old NGEF rake running gracefully o­n the Metro tracks. They were seen waiving to the rake and taking photographs.

Tomorrow, i.e. o­n 24.10.2024 (Thursday) Metro Railway, Kolkata, India’s First Metro is completing forty years. To mark this occasion, o­ne such  Heritage Run will be  organised tomorrow also from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station to Maidan station.  This run will start from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station at 13.00 hrs and interested commuters can enjoy this ride from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Maidan station. For this, they will have to purchase Rs.100/- ticket per head from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station booking counters.   This train will not stop at any station enroute.

This rake manufactured with the electricals from National Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) is the showcase of self-reliance of Indian Railways own production Unit at Perambur. This Metro rake was manufactured by ICF with electrics from NGEF. In the first commercial run, o­ne such NGEF rake was introduced o­n 24th October, 1984. Out of the eight coaches of an NGEF rake, six coaches used to be DMC (Driving Motor Coach) and NDMC (Non-Driving Motor Coach). These coaches used to be powered by motor coaches, each having four number of series type DC traction motors.
