WALKATHON ORGANISED BY METRO RAILWAY AS PART OF  40 YEARS CELEBRATIONS

Kolkata, Date:20.10.2024             

Metro Railway, Kolkata has been celebrating the completion of 40 glorious years of its service to the Nation from 18th to 24th October, 2024. As part of this celebration, Metro Railway organised a Walkathon from Park Street to Esplanade today i.e. o­n 20.10.2024 (Morning).  Shri P Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway flagged off this Walkathon in presence of Smt. P. Sreelatha, President of Metro Railway Women Welfare Organisation (MRWWO), Senior Officers of Metro Railway, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Scouts & Guides of Eastern Railway also and large number of Metro staff took part in this programme. Artistes with Ranapa (stilt) and Dhakis were the added attraction of this Walkathon.

In this Walkathon two tableaux, o­ne a replica of old non-ac rake and another depicting the rich heritage and cultural history of Kolkata and Metro’s contribution to  its socio-economy took part. These two tableaux drew the attention of the o­n-lookers.

This Walkathon continued for almost an hour and culminated at New Esplanade Metro station. The entire walkway from Park Street to Esplanade was beautifully branded with gates, drop down banners depicting the evolution and progress of Metro Railway and hoardings. o­n its way to Esplanade, common people also joined in this Walkathon today.

After the Walkathon, a joy ride was arranged under the river hooghly from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan and back for 30 orphans  of Suryanagar Anandaman Ashram of Kakwdip, South 24 parganas. They thoroughly enjoyed this ride with GM and Smt P. Sreelatha.

A Sit and Draw Competition  was also held at New Esplanade Metro station to mark the celebrations. School children and orphans participated In this competition.
