MORE AND MORE METRO COMMUTERS PURCHASING TICKETS THROUGH UPI PAYMENT-BASED TICKETING SYSTEM
Kolkata, Date:06.10.2024
UPI Payment Based Ticketing System has been introduced in all the Automatic Smart Card Recharge Machines (ASCRM) installed at stations as well as ticket counters of Blue Line and Green Line. In Orange and Purple Lines also this ticketing system has been introduced. As a result, commuters now don't need to tender the exact fare in currency notes and coins at these stations. Instead, they are now recharging their Smart Cards or purchasing tokens with the help of this alternative system.
After the introduction of this UPI Payment Based Ticketing System in Kolkata Metro, great enthusiasm has been observed amongst the passengers to purchase tokens or Smart Cards with this new system rather than opting for the traditional method of tendering the fare in currency notes. More and more passengers have found this ticketing mode user-friendly too.
The passengers are delighted as UPI Payment System allows seamless transactions and it saves a lot of time of passengers and enable them to enjoy a smart ticketing system.
Around Rs.20 crores have been earned through UPI based Payment System from 7th May to 5th October '24.
It is to be noted that Metro Railway authorities with the help of State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have introduced this Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Based Ticketing System.
