INTEGRATED MOBILE BASED QR TICKETING SYSTEM BECOMING POPULAR IN KOLKATA METRO

Kolkata, 19.09.2024:

 

Mobile Based Integrated QR Code Ticketing System has been introduced o­n trial basis in Kolkata Metro from 11.09.2024. Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway introduced this new ticketing system o­n trial basis at a function at Kalighat Metro station o­n that date. Since then, around 15000 passengers have used this alternative mode of ticketing system at different Corridors of Kolkata Metro for going to their destinations till 18.09.2024. Out of this, around 9000 passengers of Blue Line and around 6000 passengers of Green Line have used this ticketing mode. o­n 18.09.2024 alone, around 1800 passengers in Blue Line and 1300 passengers in Green Line have travelled with QR Code Based Tickets.Available data has revealed that this ticketing system is gradually becoming popular among Metro commuters.

 

It is to be noted that this alternative Integrated Mobile Based QR Code Ticketing System has been initiated o­n trial basis in Blue Line, Green Line-2 and Orange Line.Passengers have now been able to travel to any station across these Corridors by interchanging through seamless common paid to paid connectivity using the same Mobile Based QR Code Tickets by purchasing thesefrom home, office or o­n the go. With the help of this, passengers can avoid the long queues at the booking counters. This paperless ticket remains valid for 12 hours in a single calendar date after purchasing. Now, the commuters no longer need to carry any physical ticket to travel in the Metro.

The AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates of different stations of Blue Line and Orange Line have been upgraded to support this new ticketing system.

Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has developed this ticketing solution which is expected to gain more popularity in the coming days.
